Gingerbread Houses

The Culinary Arts class at Region III created a bunch of great gingerbread houses this year! The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce requested that the houses be created and displayed throughout the area.

Voters in the 28 towns that make up Northern Penobscot Tech Region III gave the go ahead Oct. 6th to a $2.33 million project that will make the Lincoln facility more efficient and provide additional classroom space.

"We're very pleased with the support the project has received from the communities," said Region III Director Al Dickey. "What a great vote of confidence."

As expected, turnout was low for the special referendum that was held throughout the day on Tuesday. While some of the communities that make up Region III had their polls open all day, some instead had limited hours.

With the project now approved, Region III will begin the construction process by first advertising for architects and then go through a selection process. Not only will the facility receive new insulation and lighting, a 12,160 foot addition will be constructed on the side of the railroad tracks on West Broadway. Al Dickey predicts that ground won't be broken for the addition until late spring.

The addition will include much needed classroom space and laboratories that will house programs that are currently located in Howland and Lee. Those facilities in Lee and Howland will eventually be shut down. Region III expects to save approximately $23,000 in heating costs and $14,000 in electrical expenses with the new lighting, along with $8,000 in transportation costs.
